What is 5g Wireless Technology?

Table of Contents

All over the world, everyone is talking about 5g wireless technology but most people are being confused about it and raise the question ‘what is 5g wireless technology’. So, before going to the long conversation I would like to tell the definition of it.

What Is 5g Wireless technology? ( Short Definition)

5G is the 5th generation mobile network which is a new global wireless standard after the previous networks like 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. It enables a new kind of network that has been designed to connect virtually everything together including devices.

5G wireless technology is meant to deliver higher multi-Gbps data speeds, more reliability, ultra-low-latency,  increased availability, massive network capacity. Improved efficiency, higher performance and empower new user experiences to connect new industries.

Who invented 5G?

No particular company or person invented 5G. But there are several companies that are delivering a contribution to bringing 5G to life. A name is to be mentioned and that is ‘Qualcomm’.It has played a major role inventing the many foundational technologies that makeup 5G, the next wireless standard.

Differences Between Other Generations with 5G

1G delivered an analogue voice in the 1980s. In the early 1990s, after 10 years of 1G, 2G came up with a digital voice. On 2000, 3G brought mobile data. In the 2010s, 4G led to mobile broadband. After all these networks with different show ups, now comes 5G, which is designed to provide more connectivity and more than was ever available before.

5G is a unified, more capable air interface. It has been build with an extended capability to be able to be utilized in the next-generation user to empower new deployment models and give new services.

Where is 5g being used?

5G is used across three various types of connected services, enhanced mobile broadband, mission-critical communications, and the massive IoT. A defining capability of 5G is that it is designed for further compatibility which is the ability to flexibly support future services that are not known today.

Enhanced Mobile Broadband

To make smartphones even better, 5G mobile technology can usher in new immersive experiences. That is possible in ways such as VR and AR with faster, lower latency, more uniform data rates,  and lower cost-per-bit.

Mission-Critical Communications

5G can enable new services that can drive industries with low-latency links like far distance control of vehicles,ultra-reliable, critical infrastructure, and medical procedures as well.

Massive IoT

5G connects a massive number of embedded sensors to everything  virtually, through the capacity to scale down in the following:

  • Power
  • Data rates
  • Mobility
  • Low-cost connectivity solutions

How do Consumers Use 5G?

The average consumer expected to go from being able to consume 2.3 GB of data per month today to close to 11 GB of data per month on their smartphone in 2022. This is driven by explosive growth in video traffic as cell phones are increasingly becoming the source of media and recreational part, as well as the massive growth in always-connected cloud computing and experiences.4G fully changed how we consume information.

How fast is 5G?

5G has been designed to deliver peak data rates up to 20 Gbps. But it is about more than just how fast it is. It is designed to contribute much more network capacity by expanding into a new spectrum. Perhaps It delivers much lower latency for additional immediate response and can give a uniform user experience. The new 5G NR mobile network is backed up by a coverage foundation.

Availability of 5G

5G is already available here nowadays. Global operators started launching new 5G networks at the beginning of 2019. In 2020, many countries expect 5G mobile networks. Apart from this, all major Android manufacturers are commercializing 5G phones. Very soon, it will be heard that more people may be able to access 5G.

5G has already been more than in 35 countries. Consumers are very excited about the high speeds of 5G. But 5G goes beyond these benefits by providing the capability for mission-critical services, enhanced mobile broadband and massive IoT at the same time. It is hard to predict when everyone will have access to 5G worldwide. But we are seeing great momentum of 5G launches in its first year and similarly expecting more countries to launch their 5G networks in 2020.

Reasons why 5G is important?

5G is not only important but it has the potential to support millions of countless devices at no time. It also has the potential to transform the lives of people around the world with betterment in many ways.

1. Improving Accessibility

Improvements in 5G technology can help make life better than before it was. Significant advances like in autonomous vehicle technology are possible with 5G creating the potential for people just to have new levels of freedoms personally and professionally.

2. Extending the Reach of Mobile Broadband

5G can power technology well what mobile technology permits today. 5G promises to do significant improvements in virtual 3D holograms, reality, and augmented reality by creating a high possibility to connect people.

3. Improving Safety and Security

Access to 5G technology promised to improve critical services that affect the safety and security of services today.

Any Health Risks?

Compared to cellular technologies back then, 5G network signals are carried by radio waves. These radio waves are the part of the electromagnetic spectrum which is transmitted between an antenna or mast and phone. All the time, we are surrounded by electromagnetic radiation from wifi signals, television, radio signals, mobile phones, bulb lights, as well as from a whole range of other available technologies, including sunlight as well.

5G uses higher frequency waves than mobile networks we used earlier, allowing many devices to access the internet in terms of speed as fast as possible. These waves travel through a short distance via spaces, so that it needs more transmitter masts than previous technologies.

Concerns

This has led some people to worry about increased health risks. The electromagnetic radiation that it radiates used by all mobile phone technologies leads to developing certain types of cancer all over the body parts. A toxicology report released in 2018 by the US Department of Health, where they pointed that found that male rats expose high doses of radiofrequency radiation developed a type of cancerous tumor in their heart.

Conclusion

Everything has its own pros and cons. This is a new term for all and frequently customers and inquirers ask to know what is 5g wireless technology. It is simply the upgraded version of 1G,2G,3G and 4G that facilitates us with wireless networks globally. Before inventing anything, researchers get themselves mentally prepared both the ways to face it’s both sides. Amazingly, this world is an unending series of technologies and inventions. Without a doubt, the internet plays an important part in our lives. 5G is just a part of that to create ease in our works of life.
